The assessment criteria for the Road Ready workshop has several components, which participants need to satisfy in order to successfully pass the course.Participate positively, the Road Ready workshop is designed to engage participants in discussion around the issues raised in the modules. It is necessary that participants are involved in those discussions and do so in a positive manner.

This course will alert you to many skills required for safe driving and to the hazards out there on the roads. It will also provide you with an understanding of the process for obtaining both a Learner and Provisional License.

The course does not cover the Road Rules Knowledge Test so we suggest you study the handbook before attending the course.

What to bring to the course:

  • ACT Application for a Driver Licence Form (Green Form provided on booking) Completed

We understand that some participants are genuinely unable to provide Proof of Residency, in these scenarios please inform the facilitator during the course. When you attend the Canberra Connect Shopfront to have your license issued a Customer Service Manager at the Shopfront may accept a statutory declaration completed by a 'Verifying Person'. "Genuinely unable" is not constituted because a person will be inconvenienced by the delay, difficulty or expense of getting documentation from a relevant source.

Once you have your learner driver licence you can learn to drive with a driving instructor, parents, relations or friends provided that the licensed driver holds a full Australian driver licence. The full driver licence must be the type required for the vehicle the learner is driving.

A learner licence lasts for 2 years, but must be held for at least 6 months before being able to obtain a provisional driver licence. You must display "L" plates at all times when driving.

Both Certificates are valid for 2 years. If an applicant fails to obtain their learner drivers licence within 2 years of completing the Road Ready Course, they will be required to retake and successfully complete the Road Ready Course and Road Rules Knowledge Test again before their learner licence will be issued.

Expired Learner Licence holders are only required to undertake and pass the Road Rules Knowledge Test again.
